How to RSS on WordPress
-
Hi all,
Could someone please advise the best and easiest way to incorporate an RSS feed of updates to my collection on a WordPress site?
Thanks
K.

When I update the audio/video section of my WordPress site, I want my friends to be able to receive the updates automatically in the RSS reader via subscribing to the RSS feed link on my WordPress site.
Thanks

drmike appears to be off line right now.
The forum search box contained this thread and many others on the subject too http://wordpress.com/forums/topic.php?id=4677&replies=2
FAQs blog also has information on feeds http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/04/19/feeds-stats-readers-and-more/
http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/06/16/feeds-save-time-and-read-more/
Hopefully these will be of help while you’re waiting for drmike to reply. -
That first link that TT gives shows the way to pull an RSS feed from your site. If you want to do it for a specific category, just add /feed/ to the URL of the category. For example a feed for your Uncategorized category would be:
http://wongwerks.wordpress.com/tag/uncategorized/feed/
Hope this helps,

So that’s something the recipient would have to do, rather than something the blogger would set up?

Most people on Internet don’t use RSS readers. Almost everyone uses email. Now you can add code to your sidebar to add a link so that your readers can subscribe to your blog and get the feed in their email.
I just did it for my own blog http://sovereignjohn.wordpress.com
powered by FeedBlitz
PS
They have two forms. My blog is free and free hosted so the first form didn’t work. I used the second smaller link.

Thanks for all your help guys, much appreciated. I’m afraid I’ve still got a few more questions/clarifications.
DrMike, are you saying that if I only want to provide a RSS feed for the audio and video tab of my WordPress site, I would have this?
http://wongwerks.wordpress.com/tag/audioandvideo/feed/
what is the “tag” part?
uptoknow(sovereign John), does the email updates offered by feedblitz mean that whomever fills out the form will automatically get an email of the updates to my blog whenever I add new content? What if I just want to email updates of certain portions of my WordPress site, can that be done with Feedblitz?

Good god, the LAST thing I need is more email. I’m looking into RSS readers because the number of blog posts I read a day is well over fifty, and some of them are pretty meaty ones. I would simply NEVER get through them all if I had to use email; besides, even with Gmail it’s difficult enough wading through the email every day.

I question that statement and really don’t think any of us know what ‘most of the internet’ is doing. We really need to stay away from statements like that, especially around here.
Wong, yes. Use that link for an RSS feed. The ‘tag’ bit is just there to show that it’s posts that you have ‘tagged’ with that category.
*chuckle* I get about 300-500 emails on a good (ie slow) day. :)
