How to save my blog backup to computer?
-
I have tried the export function, and a download seemed to appear, but then when I click on that it opens internet explorer. I can’t find a way to save it to my computer. Maybe it is saved on there but I just can’t find the file.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Actually I think I have found it now, so next question…
How do I use this to reinstate my blog if some day I need to?

Hi, here’s a link to ‘importing’ to wordpress, (and a short excerpt from that page..)
There are two options when importing links. You can import links from an existing blog, or you can import links from a file you have saved to your computer. Links can be imported if they are saved in OPML (Outline Processor Markup Language) file format.
Hope this helps..

Thanks for the reply afreestyler. So the file I have (which is “XML” can’t be imported?(!!) Hmm so is there an easy way to export my blog in this “OPML” file format?
-
Hmm will it be easier if I set up another blog just so I can import and export between the two? Seems like a lot of work, but this different file thing sounds like another wordpress.com mind-boggler.

More here at the wordpress support sections…
If we do not have an importing tool for your particular platform, you will need to try and convert it into one of the accepted formats so that you can use the proper importer. This means you first convert your blog to one of the services mentioned above (such as Blogger), and then import your blog from Blogger to WordPress.com.

I will mark it for staff also for you ie: ‘modlook’, as I am in no way an ‘expert’ in importing ;)

Ahaa.. I believe when you want to import (from a wordpress prior export it is easy enough..)
Go to Dashboard > Tools > Import > WordPress and you will see this>>
Import WordPressHowdy! Upload your WordPress eXtended RSS (WXR) file and we’ll import the posts, pages, comments, custom fields, categories, and tags into this site.
Choose a WXR (.xml) file to upload, then click Upload file and import.
Choose a file from your computer: (Maximum size: 15 MB)

Could you clarify your end goal? The XML file you downloaded has all your sites content (post and pages) but does not contain the media itself. If you would like to back up the media you’ll wan to manually download your photos or import your xml file into a second private site making a copy of your site.
