How to send notifications to existing followers

I have blog followers but I want to send them email notifications. The followers didn’t have the option to add their email addresses.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

They’ll follow your blog via the “Follow Blog via Email” widget in your sidebar to the right.
At this time, we don’t have a way to send emails to them besides just publishing a new post.

I have just recently added the option of “Follow Blog via Email” but prior to that I only had the “Follow Anouska Cullen”
Is there a way where those followers that selected that option will be able to receive notifications when I have posted a new post? -

No, the blue Follow button will only work for logged in WordPress.com users. They’ll have the option to enable email notifications after clicking it, but it will not work for average visitors who do not have a WordPress.com account.
Instead, keep the “Follow Blog via Email” widget.
It will still display a Follow button for logged in WordPress.com users (who will still have the option to enable email notifications after clicking it), but for folks without a WordPress.com account, it will display an Email field.

Yes, very much so. :)
This will allow _both_ people with aWordPress.com account _and_ people without a WordPress.com account to subscribe to your site.

No, that is a personal account choice and as such protected by our privacy policy.
Rest assured that an people with a WordPress.com account who are following your site have chosen to receive notifications of your new posts in a manner that they prefer.

Amazing! I have removed the blue “Follow Anouska Cullen” and kept the Follow Blog via email from your advice. I just want to double check, by keeping this option, the reader will have the option to add an email address or not. I

There’s an option in their subscription settings, they can choose to enable email notifications, it will use the email address in their WordPress.com account.
