How to set comment notification on my blog?
-
Hi my WordPress friends and guys :-),
Here’s the thing, I prepared to write a new note on my blog on Dec 31, 2019 in the meantime I saw a notification of comment (occurred at Dec 13, 2019) on the *Admin* page of my blog.
Maybe I never care about my comments of my blog before.
One more thing, I’ve also noticed all of comments (total 22)’ status is pending now.
Now I wanna instantly receive an email notification if someone comments my blog note, then how to set this on my blog?
Thanks beforehand!
Best Regards

Howdy –
All of your comment settings can be edited from:
https://wordpress.com/settings/discussion/quanwenzhao.wordpress.comThe 22 pending comments can be approved or deleted from https://wordpress.com/comments/pending/quanwenzhao.wordpress.com
Since the settings will not publish comments automatically you’ll need to manually approve those.

Hello Howdy :-),
Thank you very much for replying to me!
Based on the 1st hyperlink you supplied to me I’ve appropriately set it. That’s to say, from now on if somebody comments something on my blog note could I instantly receive an Email Notification? (the initial comments have still not shown now?)
Could you check my setting whether it is exactly right? I really don’t want to manually approve them one by one. It’s so tedious and no automatical!

The way you have it now you should receive an email every time someone leaves a new comment, or if a comment is held for moderation, yes.
I really don’t want to manually approve them one by one. It’s so tedious and no automatical!
At the moment you have the option, ” Comment author must have a previously approved comment” enabled. That means the first comment someone makes will be held until you manually approve it, and all future comments from the same person should be approved automatically.
If you don’t want comments to be held for moderation at all, you need to also uncheck that option.
The comments that are already in moderation will only appear once you manually approve them.

A special thank you for a good suggestion, kokkiesh :-). It’s very nice. At this very moment when you reply to me I instantly receive an email notification.
Of course I don’t hope my first (new) comment by somebody being manually approved and then next comments back and forth automatically approved.
So I uncheck this option “Comment author must have a previously approved comment”.

Hi kokkieh :-),
Here I still have some confusion to ask for your help.
- If I uncheck “A comment is held fo moderation” on https://wordpress.com/settings/discussion/quanwenzhao.wordpress.com, could I receive an email when anybody else comments my blog post?
Here’s my screenshot. https://quanwenzhao.files.wordpress.com/2020/01/comment_1.png
- If I both uncheck thest two options “Comment must be manually approved” and “Comment author must have a previously approved comment” on https://wordpress.com/settings/discussion/quanwenzhao.wordpress.com, could I never need approve thoese comments anyone else posts?
Here’s my another screenshot. https://quanwenzhao.files.wordpress.com/2020/01/comment_2.png
- When somebody posts a comment on my blog post if he/she doesn’t choose the check box “Notify me of new comments via email.” in the below of the button “Post Comment”, could I also never receive an email?
Best Regards

Moderation settings and email notifications settings are not related.
You have “Email me whenever – Anyone posts a comment ” enabled, so you’ll get email notifications of all comments.
When somebody posts a comment on my blog post if he/she doesn’t choose the check box “Notify me of new comments via email.” in the below of the button “Post Comment”, could I also never receive an email?
That controls whether or not the commenter themselves get notifications of further comments on the post, and has nothing to do with notifications you as site owner/post author receives.
-
A big and very thank you again, kokkieh.
But why I never receive email notifications of comment before? I think my initial comment settings is default (check). Moderation settings is also checked (default). Now I uncheck moderation setting for directly showing comment which if somebody posts (I don’t enter into the background of my blog and next to approve it).
Could you post a *test* comment on my new blog note now? I see whether I can receive an email notification of new comment.
Best Regards

Our logs show we’ve sent you comment notification emails for two for comments on your post, https://quanwenzhao.wordpress.com/2018/02/01/banner-logo/, both made in the last 24 hours. So from what I can see, this is working.
If you didn’t receive those emails, please make sure they didn’t go to spam, or else contact your email provider to make sure they aren’t blocking them somehow.
-
That’s because I manually approve that comment in the background, and which I reply, so I can see those all related comments.
But I don’t receive their email notifications (both inbox and spam). Now I only ask for my email’s provider.
Thank you very much.

Hi kokkieh :-),
I don’t manage to get contact with my email provider, could I try to replace with another email account for test (still reserving my WordPress register account, just receving the message of notifications by another email)?

Hello macmanx :-),
My means is that I don’t change my email account registered and just replace with another email account for receiving comment notification.

Hi macmanx :-),
Now I change my another email account by https://wordpress.com/me/account, in the meantime I instantly receive two emails in my old and new email.
Then I try to post a comment in my new blog note but I still haven’t receive an email notification in the inbox and spam of my new email. It’s why?
Best Regards

Comment notifications for the site owner are sent to the email address connected to your WordPress.com account. You cannot have comment emails go to a different address.
You made the last comment on your site using the new email address for your own WordPress.com account. We only send out notifications when other people comment on your posts, not when you comment on a post as the same account that you used to write it.

Ok, I got it, thank you kokkieh :-).
Yesterday I received an email message that my colleague replied to me, but about another email message about the comment he specially posts, which I didn’t received.
I infer that only when I manually approved it, then WordPress would be possible to send me an email notification. Am I right?

P.S. My original followers have disappear (I think that the newer WordPress version has adjusted related setting options and locations).
A few days ago I eventually noticed the setting of followers and reset my followers in order to email me when they post a new comment and somebody posts a comment on their blog note.
Of course, this is normal now. recently I am able to receive some email notifications.

Now I find a workaround that is downloading an APP of WordPress to my IPhone after listening to the advice of my colleague.
I am always logging on the background of WordPress in order to receiving some Push Notifications.
I think this is also a good idea (It’s unnecessary to log into it on my laptop).

That’s a good idea, if you want to have notifications on your mobile phone. This way you can also reply to you comments any time and anywhere :)
