How to set my Blog Feed as my homepage?

  • Unknown's avatar

I just want a full listing of expanded blog content to be my landing page, at the root / of the site. Currently, I have exactly that, but it’s at /blog-feed/

    Blog Feed

How can I make the page at /blog-feed/ just be my homepage at the / root?

I have tried switching the Home Page in Customizer > Homepage Settings to ‘Blog Feed’, which looks great in the preview, but then when I go to the actual homepage in an incognito window, the feed just isn’t there, all I see is the site title.

For now I have returned it so the Home Page is ‘Blog Home’ and Posts Page is ‘Blog Feed’, while I try to figure out what to try next.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • You still have your Home Page set to “Blog Home,” make sure that it’s set to “Blog Feed” or just choose “Your latest posts” for the front page: https://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/

    Thanks for your reply staff-blorbo.

Yes, that’s what I meant when I said “For now I have returned it so the Home Page is ‘Blog Home’ and Posts Page is ‘Blog Feed’, while I try to figure out what to try next.”

I have now switched Home Page to “Blog Feed“ so you can see what is happening when I do that.

    Hi amcwill,

I see what you mean — setting Blog Feed as the posts page doesn’t show any posts but I can’t see an obvious reason why. Could you try deleting the existing the existing feed page, create another and select the new one in Customise > Homepage Settings to see whether that makes a difference?

Having said that, staff-blorbo’s suggestion of going to the Customise > Homepage Settings and setting Your homepage displays to latest posts should do what you are looking for.

You could then add a link to the menu with a title of “Blog Feed” so visitors have a way back to your posts from other areas of the site.

    Thanks for your reply @gemmacevans.

Somehow I think I figured it out.

Blog Feed looked great when it was set as Blog Feed. Somehow, the act of switching it from Blog Feed to Blog Home completely changed its appearance, and removed all posts from it. There was no explanation for why simply being set as the front page would alter the published content, but in the end all I did was recreate the appropriate widget on the Blog Feed page as though I was creating a page from scratch, kind of half inspired by your suggestion. Also I did change the Your homepage displays setting to your latest posts.

In any case it works now. Thanks

Playing around I can see it appears to be the Your homepage displays setting being set to your latest posts which is giving the homepage I want.

However I can’t see where to customize the number of posts shown before the user has to click to load more. I would like to increase the number.

Do you know where I can set this number?

    Thank you

  • There was no explanation for why simply being set as the front page would alter the published content

When you set the Blog Feed page as the posts page, the site ignores any actual content added to the Blog Feed page, and shows the latest posts instead.

But if you set the Blog Feed page as the front page, it displays the page content. That’s what setting a page as the front page means – it tells the site you want the first thing people see to be content of that page, rather than your posts. The title you give to the page has no effect on this.

If you want the front page to show your posts, you need to select that setting, as you’ve now done, not the static front page option.

I hope that clarifies it for you, but let me know if anything is still unclear.

However I can’t see where to customize the number of posts shown before the user has to click to load more. I would like to increase the number.

This is controlled from your site’s Writing Settings – go to My Site ->Manage ->Settings ->Writing
