How to set my blog so people don't receive email notifications

  I am hearing from a lot of people who say they have left comments and then from that point on they get email notifications automatically of an new postings.

  Is there a way I can make it so this doesn’t happen automatically?

  Or, is there other advice? I do show people how to turn off the notification through their WP account, but I would rather that only those who subscribe actually receive the email notifications of new posts.
