How to set my home page

  • Unknown's avatar

I messed up! I want the landing page for the blog to be the home page. This is so that people can navigate back to that page. I somehow deleted the Home page and now I’ve made a new on. But how to I get that to be the main page when people come to the blog.
I hope that makes sense, and that you can help.
    Regards
    Alan

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • I’m seeing the “welcome” page being the landing page. It’s a nice landing page, but is it what you are going for? The only “home” page I see doesn’t have much content. So I’m guessing that you have decided to use the “welcome” page.

If I have guessed incorrectly, let me know and we’ll get you fixed up.

Thank you for your reply! Of course, after I posted that message, I managed to fix it more or less how I want it.
You’re right, the home page doesn’t have much content, but that’s because it’s just new. I’m hoping that when I make a post and people click it on Twitter or Facebook, they will see the post. If they want to see all the posts, then they will find them at the Home page.
If I direct people to this blog, it will be to the Welcome page. If you think that is not the best thing to do, I’d be interested in your thoughts.
    Thanks again.

  • That is one of those decisions that is a 6 of one, half dozen of the other, you know?

In a very general sense, if you think you will be updating your blog regularly, I would make it the front page. If you think that your site will be more static in nature, with infrequent updates, then I would go for a static front page like the “welcome” one.

Looks like I need to change it then. Because I intend frequent updates.
    Thanks again for your help.

Sorry to be a pain, but I’m still having problems. How do I make the Home page the landing page. As it stands at the moment, the landing page is the Welcome page, and if you click the Home page you see all the blogs. That is great, but how to I make that page the landing page.
When I try to change this I cant get it to work.

  • Not a problem, happy to help.

Log into your WordPress.com site’s dashboard and go to Settings–>Reading. You will see something that looks like this screenshot:

Just check the “your latest posts” button and then scroll down to the “save changes” button at the bottom of the page.

Thanks again, and for your patience.
I’ve done that, but that doesn’t fix it. That’s because I initially made some kind of mistake and deleted the Home button. I re-installed the Home button by creating a Home page and a Home menu.
I have now deleted that Home page.
The landing page is correct. But if someone navigates to the About or Welcome page, I want them to click the Home button and come back to the landing page.
So the question is – how do I make that Home button reveal the landing page with all the posts showing?
As I said initially, I messed up and I can’t find a way to get out of it. Hope you can help!

  • I’ve got that fixed for you.

In the future, when you need to make changes to those navigation buttons, you log into your site’s dashboard and go to Appearance–>Menus. We’ve got a pretty good support page on using the menu feature here:

Thank you for that, I appreciate your help.
    Great service!

  • Happy to help.

Let me know if there is anything else I can do for you. Otherwise, thanks for using WordPress.
