How to set up

Our Quaker Meeting would like a stand-alone blog linked to our web site. My question is how the meeting could set that up and manage payment. I have a personal WordPress/BlueHost blog paid by credit card but our church does not have a credit card. Can we set it up in the church’s name, with its email, and have a member pay with his/her credit card?

    WP.com: Yes
    Jetpack: No
    Correct account: Yes

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I think the best option to achieve your goal would be to create a Free WordPress.com site and include a Donation Block on the page to accept payments from your congregation members.

You can simplify usability by designing the blog using a single-page theme with a sidebar and a static homepage. The donation block should fit inside the sidebar and you can place facility location information near the page footer.

BTW, Bluehost is a separate company from WordPress.com, both companies offer competing services. The blogging software (WordPress) shares the same name which can lead to some confusion.

  • @wcfm2d6e7eab99a you’d be welcome to host here (here’s the difference) but I do want to point out Jetpack has a payment block that could work nicely for you:

It’s a lot like the one we use here (powered by the same tech) and might be even easier than having a separate donations page here with us, though that is a valid option too (thank you @parkdanil!) You’d just want to make sure Jetpack is installed and connected.
