How to set up a front page

I know it looks like I have a different host, than wordpress. The thing is that I have my own domainname, but I’m still using wordpress (http://maryathome.wordpress.com)
I wish to set up a front page on my blog, a page were I present the name of my blog, and buttons to get to my other pages.
Is this possible?
I’ve tried to use coffeecup visual site designer, and allready my knowledge meets a little mountain. It asks for a saved link on my computer were my blog is. I have exportet my blog, saved the file (a xml-file), but the visual site designer refuses to open this, and says it is an invalid file.Any idea about what I can do, or an easier way to make a frontpage?
