How to set up a jump between pages?
-
I’ve tried to find the answer to this, and I imagine it’s here somewhere, but I haven’t located it. What I would like to do would be to set a link in one of the pages on my blog that would link to a specific word on another page, also in my blog. Reason for this is that my pages are quite long, and simply having the reader jump to the top of a page still leaves them to do a fair amount of searching. Would anyone be willing to help an HTML ignoramus with this? I get the procedure for linking from one page to another, but what I’m trying to do is link to a specific location within another. Thank you for any help you have time to give me.

Thank you for your reply. I’ve read this page and tried to apply it as a way of jumping between pages, but I can’t make it work. The instructions there seem to apply only to jumping within pages. Am I missing something?

I just wanted to be sure that you had seen it. I’m not aware of any built-in feature you can use. And we cannot edit our templates at wordpress.com http://faq.wordpress.com/2005/09/27/edit-my-templates/

I did some googling, and found this page that explains it. The first part of the page tells about jumping to another point on a page, but then they lead you to another page which has some code you can try to jump to a word on another page (click on the “click here to go” link above “welcome back.”

I should say, that I’m not sure if this will work here at .com or not, but I’d give it a try.

By the way, post back here and let us know if it does so that we can bookmark it for future use.

It should work by putting the full URL of the post in front of the hash sign. So, it would be:
<a href="http://myblog.wordpress.com/2007/11/30/my-jump-page/#jump>Jump from here</a>on the page to jump from and:
<a name="jump">to here</a>on the page to jump to. At least, it seems to work for me on my test blog.
-
Of course, that would only work to jump between the permanent links; you couldn’t use that method to jump between points on the continuous list of posts which may have been what OP was trying to achieve.

@wolftieb
That’s great to hear and thanks for letting us know. I’ll put it in my copy and paste file for the future. -
@tsp
De nada; you’re welcome. It’s nice that I was able to give HTML help, when I know hardly anything about it! Yay me! :-) -
Eureka! It works! I have now gone from knowing nothing about HTML to knowing one cool thing, thanks to all of you.
