http://learn.wordpress.com/If I understand your question correctly, you are asking about how to organize portfolios of several different artists. Most wp.com themes support these suggestions.
The best way to do that is to assign posts about each artist to a category:
artist 1, artist 2, and so on.
Then you can make a custom menu with each artist in your navigation bar up top.

(clicking on a category will show all posts in that category so you can make a custom menu with those category links)
