How to set up my new email and google apps after buying a domain?

  • Unknown's avatar

    This has me baffled.

    Recently I’ve purchased a custom domain for my wordpress.com site. Which is working fine. In the process of buying that I also bought Google Apps, which allowed me to create a custom email. After purchasing I received a receipt on my purchase but no instructions how to set up my new email that is [email redacted] and google apps, I paid £33.00 for this and just cannot use it as I don’t have a clue how to set it up and have no clue on how to go about doing it.

    Anyone able to help me so I can start actually using the email I bought as well as google apps on my wordpress.com site. Seems ridiculous.

    These are the support docs relating to custom emails

    I’ve looked through all of them before I posted in here. Still not able to get a definite answer from them, that’s why I asked in here.

    I don’t understand why I’ve literally not been sent anything that helps me set it up, it’s ridiculous.

    Yea, I found this thread because I’m in the same boat.

    Heard nothing back, seems like theres no one who knows anything :/ I’m still stuck with a custom email and google apps that I can’t even use, after paying £33.

    Surely there’s a solution

    That document is of no use Susan. The issue we’re having (it appears I have the same) is that I have no way of logging into a the new Google Apps dashboard. I got 1 single email with a link to admin.google.com to sign in. I didn’t have a Gmail account previously (made one – personal) thinking that’s what it wanted. I also tried the email address (both the custom Gapps one I setup during the wordpress.com purchase process) and my normal personal one and their respective passwords and none of them work. If I use the custom domain email I setup during the checkout process for the wordpress.com account it endlessly loops between asking for my google account to sign in with, enter a password and then right back to the login page with no error.

    I am having the same issue. I purchased the google app with email when I purchased the domain. I have the receipt from the purchase, but that is all. Not sure what to do.

    Hi everyone,

    I’m sorry for the trouble you’re having with Google Apps! I’d be happy to help each of you here, or you’re welcome to contact us directly to start your own support request with a Happiness Engineer.

    @danielkatepullen — I saw you emailed us directly about this, and I just replied to your email. You’re welcome to follow up with me via email to sort this out.

    After purchasing Google Apps, you’ll receive an email with the login details (a username and temporary password) for your Google Apps account and a link to log in. That email looks something like this:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/add-email/adding-google-apps-to-your-site/#completing-sign-up

    If you don’t see that email in your inbox, please try searching all of your email (including your junk/spam folder) for “WordPress.com” or “Google Apps” to see if it turns up that email. If you still don’t find the email that way, please let me know and I can work on this for you.

    @bjmarlatt — You mentioned receiving an email with a link to sign in. Can you also check that email again to see if your username and temporary password are included there?

    @rachelmcr Thanks so much for the response! I haven’t gotten an email- not sure if I am not checking in the right place, but even in SPAM I haven’t received a wordpress.com email with the information to log in. Can you help again? Sorry! Thanks so much

    @danielkatepullen – Can you confirm that the email address listed here is correct:

    https://wordpress.com/me/account

    Make sure you’re checking in the ‘Social’ folder if it’s a Gmail account.

    Thanks @shawnajroberts! That is what I was missing– the emails were there, but in the Social folder. I had never used that before. I’m all set. Thank you!

    Great! Glad you found them. :)

    Let me know if I can help with anything else!

    When I bought the google apps upgrade I never received any temp log in details to log into my google apps profile. I’ve checked all over my inbox and can’t find anything of the sort. I followed the steps in the second post of this thread to try and set some form of my email up. Everything seem to work fine but now I have been told that my google apps trial has ran out and I need to set up billing. I paid £33 for google apps when I upgraded my domain name and I still haven’t seen any use of this and now can’t even access my emails.

    I think it’s absolutely terrible how I have been charged this, haven’t recieved any details what so ever on how to set it up in the first place, have no access to my email now and used a trial account etc. Basically been robbed of £33 and still at square one.

    I’d love to know what on earth to do next :( im just fed up.

    @rachelmcr I’ve searched all of my inbox and there is no email of the sort that gives me temp log in details. But I have the receipt for my google apps :/

    Please can somebody help

    I am having the same frustration. I am working on it now. If I figure it out I will let you know. And same with you, please.

    @whatrhinosaid

    It appears your Google Apps registration failed, and that’s why the emails were never sent. My apologies for the trouble. Since that registration was attempted on February 07 we’re passed the normal time of refunds so I cannot automatically send a refund to you. However, I’ve requested a refund for the cost of Google Apps registration be made and will report back here as soon as its processed.

    @carolynecathey

    Your account is not showing the same issue as @whatrhinosaid. Your license appears to have been created correctly on April 15th.

    Have you searched all your email folders, including Spam and any “Social” or “Promotional” inboxes for an email from WordPress.com that contains your temporary password?

    This guide is helpful for locating that email:

    @alexjgustafson

    Ah, well that clears everything up then. No wonder I was having so much trouble. Thank you for looking into this. I seem to have received a partial refund for my google apps payment. Thank you.

    Now if I still want google apps, and to keep the email i set up (in relation to my site) do I just continue my trial by paying the yearly/monthly cost through the billing part of the google apps site?
