How to share *all* comments with users?

    Hi,
My group is using wordpress.com as a closed discussion area – so all users are actively participating and making comments. All of the website users want more information/notification of comments being made. The recent comments widget is turned on, but it’s not enough for our needs. Ideas have been:
    1) be notified of new comments *by default* – when a user replies to a post, there is an option to receive emails, but it is not on by default. They would like it to be, and I can not find any option to turn that on by default.
    and/or
    2) see all comments in one place like the Admin>Comments page as a page on the site. There’s the RSS comment feed, but because all the pages/posts are password protected, the RSS feed only shows “Protected Comments: Please enter your password to view comments” so you can’t quickly see the content.
Does any one know if these are doing – or have another idea??
    Thank you!

    p.s. – I didn’t supply a site.wordpress.com address because it’s a closed site. :)

You might try the P-2 theme which is designed as a discussion sort of blog.

Thank you for the suggestion! I tested out P2 and it looks like it only allows for that front page that is a twitter-like feed. We have additional static pages that hold information. Please keep the ideas coming! :)

    Yes, P2 is twitter-like.

Perhaps look into the various user roles: though be careful. I’m not sure, but it appears that only folk with “editor” status can view all comments. It also means they can do more than would be copasetic unless you trust everyone to not delete or edit posts and pages:

An editor can view, edit, publish, and delete any posts/pages, moderate comments, manage categories, manage tags, manage links and upload files/images.

    from http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/

I’m in a neighborhood-association group on both Facebook and Google Groups so am notified of new comments while at the same time people can’t delete anyone else’s posts (except for the administrator). On the other hand, there are no pages in either group for static information. And most people post on both groups so I get an excessive number of email notifications, duplicated…

The only thing I can think of is that you, as the administrator, could copy and past the comments from the dashboard to a page so there would be one place your members could look at them. You’d have to stay on top of it, copying and pasting.

We can hope some other volunteer has another suggestion for your to try.

    Best wishes,
    Tess

Or maybe look at forum hosting / software. I’m not familiar with setting such a thing up so I can’t advise you.
