How to show brief content for multiple posts on front page

    Hi everyone,

i have been trying in vain to find out how to change the look of my main page. I basically want to show say 3-5 of my most recent posts but in shortened format, say 10 lines, so people have to click to go through to full post. Currently it has been showing 5 posts, but showing the entire post, but without the comments box, like buttons etc…HELP!! I have reduced main page to just the most recent post currently, and it is still showing the full format…

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Sometimes bloggers think changing their RSS feed here > Settings > Reading
Syndication feeds show the most recent __ items
For each article in a feed, show
    __ Full text
    __ Summary
will result in truncated posts on their front page. This is not the case. That setting is only for the feed. It’s not for what’s displayed on the front page. To have only teaser text on the front page followed by a “read more” link visitors can click and view the whole post on it’s own page you must edit the posts and insert “the more tag” into them.

If you wish as you are using a theme Twenty Eleven with an active excerpt box you have an alternative. If you wish you can simply copy and paste the teaser text you want into the excerpt box below the editor box in the Excerpt Module. However, that amounts to editing too and it’s a little more work than simply editing and clicking the icon to insert “the more tag”.

Currently it has been showing 5 posts, but showing the entire post, but without the comments box, like buttons etc

The front pages of our blogs showcase content and comments are collapsed on that page. The way the comments function is coded into the core of WordPress. By clicking the post title or the comments link the posts on the front page open on their own page where all comments display.

In a new blog one does not have many posts or comments. In an established blog if the comments did not collapse on the front page it would become a mile long in no time flat and page loading time is a page ranking factor. We have only seconds before visitors refuse to wait and click out.

If you want the sharing buttons on your front page then see here >

I can’t see the buttons on the front page.
Make sure to select “Posts and index pages” for “Show sharing buttons on” setting.

    Add Social Share Buttons
