how to show empty coloumns ?

  • Unknown's avatar

    I have created a post, link : http://backports.wordpress.com/2010/02/23/hindi-films-released-in-2010-date-wise/

There is only one issue with the table.
It is not showing empty coloumns. Please guide me about how to view the empty coloumns.
I have given “align=center” in <table>. But the text is not in center. How do I achieve this ?

    Thank U :)

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Putting align=”center” in the table tag is for centering the table itself, not its contents (and it doesn’t work in the theme you’re using, as you’ve found out). To center the contents, you need this:
    style="text-align:center;"

As for showing empty columns, I don’t understand what you mean.

I have left two empty coloumns below film name and release date.
and also empty coloumns below each date.
    example :

January 08, 2010 Dulha Mil Gaya
    Pyaar Impossible
    empty cell empty cell
January 15, 2010 Chance Pe Dance
    Bhavnao Ko Samjho
    empty cell empty cell

I hope the bove example will help you.

Ah, you mean empty rows, not columns.

An empty row doesn’t really have any meaning in a table, so you need to fill the cells with an invisible character. Change this:

    <td></td>
    <td></td>

    To this:

    <td><span style="visibility:hidden;">B</span></td>
    <td><span style="visibility:hidden;">B</span></td>

(I put “B” because of your username – can be any character.)

I don’t know why you need the empty rows. If you mean them as separators, there are other possibilities too; for instance, change

    <td></td>
    <td></td>

    to
    <td style="visibility:hidden;" colspan="2">B</td>

I can view the empty row by inserting ” “

    <td> </td>

Thank you panaghiotisadam for your patience and replies.

Now empty row are appearing :)

    <td> </td>

In the above reply, wordpress seems to deleted my message

    I have to learn a lot ………….

    you have to insert ” & n b s p ; ” all the characters without spaces between <td></td>

    You’re welcome.

& n b s p ; (minus the spaces) is html for a space. Inserting that isn’t advisable, because it gets stripped out if you switch the editor to visual, and then you’re back to no empty cells.

Another fine example of the visual editor messing things up.
(I was talking to starsquid about that earlier today, and why I continue to give people here in these forums answers that would include it.
Afraid of html, inexperienced, doing just straight-forward things in their blogs…)

  • Unknown's avatar

Well, I never use the visual editor. But others do, so when I give replies I’ve got to take it into account.

Yeah, well I mostly use the html editor. Lots of times putting things into TestEdit as you did for me back in July (?or email it to myself: the blue colors of links help with reading the code…).

But, I do sometimes use the V.E. because I am not so fast with html as you are. Especially with image coding. Though I am coming to the point where it is becoming more trouble…

    GAK got to go…
