How to show one image only for the whole gallery?

  • Unknown's avatar

This question has been asked before with no real conclusion, so it’s probably a bit forlorn but I will ask anyway.

I want ONE photo to appear, and when you click on it, it will reveal / open the gallery and display all the pics in contains.

I found this link above asking the same thing, and no real solution was mentioned.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

This is not really an elegant solution, but it will work. I see you already have a few photo galleries in pages, so this perhaps you’ll find this idea suitable.

    1. Create a gallery in a page.
    2. Create a second page or a post to serve as a door or an entrance to the gallery.
    3. Use the Insert/Edit link tab in the page editor to create a link from the door page to the gallery page. Voilà!

    3. Use the Insert/Edit link tab in the post/page editor to create a link from the door post/page to the gallery page.

Thanks, that seems easy to do, but I haven’t succeeded yet. The doorway is still sitting on the trailer. Perhaps I will call the handyman in the morning and book a time for installation.

Your advice seems doable, with a couple of days devoted to it this blind squirrel will eventually stumble across his nut.

“Use the Insert/Edit link tab in the page editor”…. I’m not really sure how to modify this link, I licked on it which altered it somehow, but didn’t seem to do much.

Right now I’d settle for just being able to change the order of “door” and “the place after the door” on my blog.

Well I’ve tried everything. I even tried changing the URL in a pciture to the URL of another gallery, but it wouldn’t allow me to do that. Oh well, not happening I guess.

Thanks anyway musicdoc1. Btwe did what you mention ever work for you?

Btw did what you mention ever work for you?

Yes. Hundreds of times. You can link any image to any other image, or to any website, page, or post, internal or external. I’ll try to set you on the right track.

“Use the Insert/Edit link tab in the page editor”…. I’m not really sure how to modify this link, I clicked on it which altered it somehow, but didn’t seem to do much.

There’s a support page on adding a link to an image, here: Image Links, but I use a different method which gives the same result. After you upload your image you right click on the image, then right click on the “Edit/add link.” A module pop up comes up which has two boxes below the prompt “Enter the destination URL.”
The first box is the destination URL, the second is the title, which can be left blank or filled in. Enter the destination URL, which in this case would be your gallery page URL. (It’s basically the same procedure you would used to create to create a text link, like the one I’ve made above, except that instead of highlighting the text you just click on the image as the first step.)

    What do you mean?

    Corrections.

1.Got to learn my left from my right.

After you upload your image you right click on the image, then right click on the “Edit/add link.”

The “right click” instructions should both be “left click.” Sorry. Let me know if you’ve learned this little trick. It’s really very simple. A lot easier than camping and fly fishing in the wilderness.

    2. Modification

You can link any image to any other image, or to any website, page, or post, internal or external.

This applies to embedded images. You can link an embedded image (or text) to any URL: another image, Website, page, post, Google search, Google search result, etc.

    Hi there,

It looks like @musicdoc1 was able to help you with this. Let me know if you have any further questions!

    @thetroutphile,
You might also wish to consider using Image widgets in your sidebar to link to galleries in pages or posts.
