How to shut off e-mails when someone likes a comment
-
I get an e-mail every time someone likes a comment I make on a VERY busy blog. I’m getting buried. And it’s stupid, because there’s nothing to *do* when someone simply says “I liked that comment.”
Conversely, I don’t get an email when someone actually replies to that comment and I don’t want to subscribe to the topic (oftentimes that would get me hundreds of emails in a couple of hours). I just want an email when someone replies to my comment specifically.
Is there some way to do either of these?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Go to this page http://letreasonreign.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-discussion.php to disable that.

timethief,
Maybe I’m blind. But all I see is a way to shut off emails if someone likes a post I make on my own blog. Not if someone likes a comment I make, in response to a post, on someone else’s blog.
-
Yes, what I provided was disabling that for your own blog.
-
That looks like it might help…if I can get it to display properly; right now it’s an almost blank page.
I’ll try it later from another computer.
If it does work, thanks in advance.

What I see on that page is this:
Comments on other sites
Control your notification settings when you comment on other blogs.
notificationsLikes on your comments
Replies to your commentsEmail
re: email
There are boxes we can either place check marks in or not. -
Sounds promising. I’ll have to try on that other machine. This one just pukes up a popup showing a bunch of HTML code and tells me there was an error saving my settings. (Settings I couldn’t change because it’s puking up this dialog instead of showing me the page.)
It’s going to be several hours before I can do this. I’ll let you know. Thanks again for your help.

I would try clearing my browser cache first https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-your-browser-cache and I would also be sure I was running a browser version found at http://browsehappy.com

OK, the page did indeed load something useful from my other computer. It showed e-mail notifications for both likes AND replies to comments; I’ve turned off the one for likes. It’s 11:30 PM here and it’s likely no one will “like” something at this hour so I may not know if it actually worked until tomorrow.
The fact that I did NOT get notifications of replies to comments even though that, too, was checked makes me wonder. I unchecked it, saved, then checked it, and saved. That may or may not make it start working.
I’ll know more by tomorrow at noon, certainly.

OK. it’s certainly no longer flooding me with emails. It’s NOT, however, emailing me about replies to comments.
But the first issue was far more aggravating than the second, so I’ll consider this “done.”

Hi @sdippolito, if you’ll let us know what browser you were using before (when the page was broken) we’d appreciate that, and if you happen to have a screenshot we’d like that too. Sorry it was broken for you.
Also, can you send a link to another site where you commented today, and a person replied but you didn’t get the reply? I’ll take a look.

Internet Exploder 11.0 is the browser that did not work. It’s not a machine I have a lot of control over; I’d certainly never choose to use it (as you might guess from the way I spelled it). It’s entirely possible there’s some obscure setting that’s bodged up. (As an example of such, for a while, it insisted on prompting me to log in through a windows-based prompt THREE TIMES every time I loaded a wordpress page (and after I replied, the page would reload of course, and bug me three more times), then periodically thereafter…until I found the switch way down in the bowels of “settings” that would shut it the heck off. Exploder just sucks.)
https://thelibertyzone.us/2016/11/21/never-forget-3/#comments is one such place where I don’t get notifications of replies to comments.

is one such place where I don’t get notifications of replies to comments.
I should say I don’t get EMAIL notifications. The notification area popdown from the upper right of the screen works fine (except in Internet Exploder, where it sits and spins instead of displaying).

Hi @sdippolito, thanks.
I’ve tried a few things to see if I can make it work. Can you confirm whether you get email replies-to-comment notifications from other sites?
I’ll also be doing some testing here. Thanks :)
-
Every site I visit, I do NOT get such e-mails.
I’m only able to monitor this conversation because I followed the entire thread with “Notify me of followup posts via e-mail”

Thanks @sdippolito . We’ll be testing things here & I’ll let you know what I find. Cheers :)
