How to sort my link categories on my "All Postings" page ?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello,guys

Currently,I have added another 2 link categories in Links setting and one is “Oracle Specialist”,another is “Special Links”.Default link category is “Blogroll”.

Now,I wanna sort 3 link categories above and final result is as follow,

    1. Special Links,
    2.Blogroll,
    3.Oracle Specialist,

    Till now,it’s below,

    1.Blogroll,
    2.Oracle Specialist,
    3.Special Links,

Because the sequence I added link categories is “Oracle Specialist” first and “Special Links” second.

Don’t change that sequence(except adding them again) showing on my posting page ?

Please giving me some good advice, thanks a lot!

    Best Regards

    Hello Quanwen Zhao,

From your dashboard, if you go into Themes -> Customize (https://wordpress.com/customize), then select Widgets and choose your “Main Sidebar”, you should be able to click and drag the different link categories into the order that you want.

Alternatively, on that same page there should be a “Reorder” link below the different groups of links. You can click on that, then move the categories up and down to change their position in the sidebar.

There is additional information about widgets at: Widgets.

Please let us know how it goes.

    Have a good one!

    Hello,dphyled!

In fact,I haven’t found my “Main Sidebar” on “Widgets” inside the “Customize”,and it’s so weird and has shown or not sometimes. This snapshot below is what I descripted.

Nevertheless, there is “Links” in my ‘wp-admin’ page and those “Link Categories” haven’t been dragged and moved up and down. This snapshot below is what I mentioned.

    Please Note.

    Hello Quanwen Zhao,

Thank you very much for including the screenshots! That was very helpful. If you look in the first picture, there is the note on the left side saying that your theme has two other widget areas, but they aren’t displayed on that particular page.

If you go back to that widget customization page, then in the site preview section click on your blog title so the preview changes to your homepage (where the main sidebar is displayed), you should be able to edit the widgets there.

Please let us know how it goes. Have a good one!

    Hi,dphyled.

Actually, there is “Main Sidebar” on that widget customization page and in which is “Links”,on there,I have selected “Link Category” to be “All Links”.

By the way,I haven’t still dragged the order what you pointed out.

    This is the screenshot below,

    Hello Quanwen Zhao,

Sorry, I meant in the first picture that you sent earlier (https://snag.gy/komz0E.jpg).

If you go back to that page and click on the title of your site, then it should show the “Main Sidebar” on the left side.
It was not showing before because the Main Sidebar doesn’t display on individual posts for the Twenty Eleven Theme.

In this picture… first click the title, then the Main Sidebar should display.

After that, you can drag the categories to reorder them, or click the reorder link underneath like this.

I hope that helps! Take care.

Also, after reordering the groups on the left side, you may need to click on your site title again to refresh the preview.

    Hi,dphyled.

Thank you very much for replying to me.

It’s a good idea about displaying “Main Sidebar” by clicking my site title on the theme “Twenty Eleven”.

Your mean is telling you to create two “Links”,only this,I will can recorder them on my “Main Sidebar”.But it’s only one “Links” I have created and my three link categories has been included in that “Links”.

    See my 4 snapshot below,

    Hello Quanwen Zhao,

Ah, now I understand. Please go back to the “Main Sidebar” customization screen that you showed in your 4th image (https://snag.gy/X9qkB1.jpg).

If you scroll down to the bottom, there should be a button “Add a Widget” (#1 in this picture). After you click it, you can search for “link” in the box (#2 in the pic), then click on the “Links” widget (#3).

A new Links widget will appear in your sidebar. You can set it to the specific Link Category that you want (like in this picture).

You have one “Links” widget on your page now, so if you add two more, that will give you three. Then you can set one to “Special Links”, one to “Blogroll”, and one to “Oracle Specialist”. (Don’t set any to “All Links”)

After that you can rearrange them the way you want.

Please let me know if that is clear. Good luck!!

    Hi,dphyled.

Your approach – adding the Widget of multiple “Links” and every “Links” only appears specific or selected “Link Category” is very nice.

Now,it has accomplished my requirements, thank you very much!
