  Re how to start a free blog: It’s tricky: you need pick a paid plan and do everything you would as if you were going to pay for it, fill out all your info (including your credit card info) but before you actually click “pay” (or whatever the final word is) you need to go up to your shopping cart and delete the plan (I think from 1 item to 0 items). So, you’ve “bought” nothing, and haven’t spent any money, but now have an account. (FWIW WordPress also has your credit card info.)
