  I need to cancel any account I had associated with my email account so I can open a new account.

  Hi,

  That’s not the best way to free an email address, because the action of closing an account is followed by a 30-day window wherein you may restore the account. The email address will be unavailable for use on a new account during that time.

  So the better route is to change the email address on the unused or secondary account, as described in the Update Email Address support page. This will immediately make the email address available for use on another account, including a new account.
