how to start over?

  • Unknown's avatar

at this point, I have 2 sites – jesselukeblog.wordpress.com & jesseluke52.wordpress.com – what I want is jesseluke.com – which I already own thru network solutions – and I want to do all my business thru wordpress.

How do I cancle those 2 wordpress sites and transfer jesseluke.com here?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Unknown's avatar

DON’T DELETE OR CANCEL EITHER of your WordPress.COM sites – very bad to do – more in a few minutes

  • Unknown's avatar

no, actually I do want to delete both sites.

    jesseluke52.wordpress.com
    jesselukeblog.wordpress.com

I also DO NOT want my credit card charged at the end of the 30 free trial. but I can’t seem to find anything on that either.

  • Unknown's avatar

Step # 1 – move any content from jesseluke.com to the blog you want to use here (it looks like jesselukeblog.wordpress.com is the blog you want to use here)

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-from-wordpress-org

Make sure you have your base site ( jesselukeblog.wordpress.com ) looks like you want it to with all the info and pictures moved from your current site

You can’t transfer the domain registration for jesseluke.com to WordPress.COM, so it will need to be registered elsewhere – many fine registrars if you don’t want to use your current registrar / host

Step # 2 – map the domain jesseluke.com to your blog here (jesselukeblog.wordpress.com) – that will cost $ 13.-/yr if it is done as a stand alone item

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

Personally I would not worry much about jesseluke52.wordpress.com and would just let it sit, since it does not have any real content – I would however put a note and a link to your new site just in case

If you want to remove the ads WordPress.COM puts on sites here to pay the bills for the free hosting, that will cost you $99.-/yr since your account is only one week old you are subject to the new “enhanced” cable TV bundle up-sell pricing and not the $30.-/yr – – but the cost of domain mapping is included in the $99.-/yr package

  • Unknown's avatar

thank you – where do remove my credit card information so I am not charged after the free trial I signed up for?

  • Unknown's avatar

and I want to do all my business thru wordpress.

How do I cancle those 2 wordpress sites and transfer jesseluke.com here?

If you want to move jesseluke.com – and have your site hosted here – you need to follow my instructions as you need a base blog here for the domain mapping to work

So you don’t want to delete the sites you have here now – trust me please on this one

The upgrade should be able to be cancelled at

Dashboard >> Store >> My Upgrades

Just in case you have trouble with canceling the trial period – I will flag this for the staff to help

  • Unknown's avatar

    thank you.

I did go there under both site names and it says this:
    “My Upgrades
You don’t have any upgrades yet. Try one of our plans.”

I do remember signing up for the 30 day free trial, can you confirm that I will NOT be charged?

  • Unknown's avatar

I can’t see your charges but the staff can look at your account charges and cancel any unwanted charges –

Sometimes a person buys an upgrade on a second account, might you have a second account you used to purchase the trial upgrade?

If you just signed up once then you should have only one account – you can also look under

Dashboard >> Store >> Billing History

One of thing changed a year or so back is the push for selling upgrades to people signing up for new accounts got more in your face based on what people have said in the forum –

But the staff have a good record of making sure you are not overcharged – they work requests from oldest to newest

  • Unknown's avatar

I think I see where I’m confused – can I have both of these under 1 account? or would that mean I have 2 accounts?

    – jesseluke52.wordpress.com
    – jesselukeblog.wordpress.com

  • Unknown's avatar

You seem to have one account, but two sites, you can have more than one blog / site per account – since hosting here is free, there is no charge for either base site.

Charges start only when you buy upgrades such as Domain Mapping or the $99.- bundle – but no upgrade is required to start a site here – I have some other sites that don’t have any upgrades (a history site and an assorted site that I put my recipes on) that are no charge to me

  • Unknown's avatar

thank you, that helps with a number of questions I had.

so why can’t I just delete the whole account? there seems to be quite a lot of complaining about that on the forums, and each one seems closed with no explanation. If I had known I couldn’t just delete it, I would NEVER have signed up in the first place.

    is that even legal?

  • Unknown's avatar

Part of the terms of service you agreed to should have the “no delete” in it – nobody much reads the TOS when they signup

You can remove all your personal info from the account and just leave the account with a throwaway junk email address in it – the only thing required to open an account is a valid email address – the no delete is so nobody else can grab the account and make like you – so protect you some record of the account needs to be kept –

And we get people all the time wanting back forgotten accounts so they can start blogging again – that is part of the reason they have a special “account recovery department”

As for legal – I have seen much huffing and puffing by many people threatening legal action over many years, and the policy is still in place, so either it is legal or nobody wants to spend the money on a lawsuit – that you can clear all personal info from an account to my thinking mitigates privacy concerns

  • Unknown's avatar

I see – OK, so there will be no charges on my account and the account has been flagged to confirm.

    thanks for your help

  • Unknown's avatar

That is correct – the staff will double check for charges on your account

You be welcome & good luck

  • Unknown's avatar

Provided you are logged in under the same username account that registered the blog and purchased the trial upgrade, you ought to be able cancel trial upgrades under Store → My Upgrades in your dashboard at any time, request a refund and also disable auto-renew.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi Jesse,

I confirmed that there are no upgrades linked to your account jesseluke52 or the two blogs you own (jesselukeblog.wordpress.com and jesseluke52.wordpress.com). You will not be charged for anything associated with that account and blogs.

Are you still interested in using your domain jesseluke.com with one of those sites? If so, we have a guide to Map an Existing Domain to a WordPress.com site, and I can give you hand with that.

  • Unknown's avatar

    On this topic.
I have bought a domain with WordPress.com. I now want to use the domain for wordpress.org.
    How do I do this?
Do I still need to get a new Web host?
    Thank you.

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes. WordPress.org just supplies software, it doesn’t host websites. Then you do this http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/move-domain/
