How to stop ads on blog

I’ve had a free blog for 4 years. Suddenly, ads appear on notifications of posts. How can I prevent this? My blog is educational, not for profit.

We display ads on all free sites on WordPress.com to cover the costs of hosting the site for free, and recently we’ve also started including ads at the bottom of subscription notification emails sent to the site’s subscribers.
If you don’t want ads to appear on your site or in emails sent from your site, you can remove them by upgrading to any of our paid plans.
