How to stop WordPress from strippping out my formatting

    I compose in two ways:

In Microsoft Word’s blog editor then upload it to WordPress as a draft.

    Online.

WordPress strips out some or all of my formatting either way.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi,

What kind of formatting is it removing?

You might have to paste your content as text. See how to do that here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/#pasting-text

If you are using Microsoft Word, you can also follow the instructions explained here:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/microsoft-word/

    Hope that helps!

    Thanks for replying.

On another WordPress forum, Microsoft Live Writer was suggested as an offline standalone composer. So far, my font style and size have not been stripped out. I think that is because I directly upload to WordPress without first going through my Desktop.

When I publish a post directly from Word, WordPress.org strips out the font style and size I used in Word.

Sometimes it adds line breaks and <p>.

I lose almost all my formatting when I copy and paste from Word to WordPress.

I’m composing a new post with Microsoft Live Writer. I’ll let you know if my formatting survives publishing.

    WLW usually works OK

Here are some code guidelines: http://en.support.wordpress.com/code/

Pasting from M/S Word is almost always a problem and seems to be erratic

Have you set: Dashboard >> Settings >>Writing >>WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically? That will also help with some other formatting problems

WordPress strips out some stuff when you switch from Text to Visual editor modes – some allowed code seems to get stripped at times if my memory is correct (I only use a couple of pieces of html formatting)

Pasting from Word is supposed to work – but the last time I tried it I had some serious formatting issues – so when I write in Word I paste it in as plain text and fix the formatting later (I don’t do a lot of fancy formatting except for keeping pictures from getting in the wrong place on my how to do things articles

    Thanks.

Just changed the setting you suggested.

I can move between WLW’s “edit” and “source” options without losing formatting as happens with “text” and “visual” in WP’s composer.

If WLW continues to work well, I’ll keep using that.
