How to switch to a self-hosted site?

    Hi all,

    I’ve decided to switch to a self-hosted site, but am having a bit of trouble determining how to transfer my old content to my new one.

    I signed up with Hostgator, using my current domain (somewhereihavenevertraveled.com). I then went to my WordPress.com account, exported my content, and then imported my content. I got an email saying that all of this was a success, but I don’t think my website is on the self-hosted server.

    Any help?

    It’s my understanding that I’m supposed to export the content from my old site, and then import that content into my new site — but my question is, how do I get onto my NEW site if the domain name is the same?

    Presumably hostgator has given you a log in? If not, just change where the domain points and wait till the DNS settles down, then log in from http://somewhereihavenevertraveled.com/wp-admin
