How to Switch to Classic Editor?

I have just created a site to use for my Family Tree information, and I am having major issues trying to understand how to use this new block editor.

I have a few self hosted sites and use the classic editor as it is much easier for me.

But I was wanting this one separate and decided to use wordpress.com.

When I paste my content into a post, it changes the layout totally, splitting some things into multiple blocks, and I can’t put them back together, and get the layout that I start with.

There was something that I think I found to use Classic editor, (it may have been code editor) but then it created an error, and tried to convert to a block, and froze.. I got totally confused.

I have been using the old way of creating sites for too long to be able to change now.

I have read on this forum that it can be switched back to Classic Editor, but only by wordpress.com staff.

Can you do that for me please.

    Thank you.

  • Hi there,

To clarify, you creating text in another tool and then copying the text into WordPress? If I can ask, what are you using? MS Word?

It is not possible for us to switch accounts at this point, but it is still possible to use to the classic editor when writing/editing posts or pages if you access the “wp-admin” dashboard on your site instead: https://chorltoncommonfamilytree.wordpress.com/wp-admin.

If you create a new page from wp-admin there is an option to create it in either the Block Editor or the Classic Editor.

As well if you hover over any existing pages in the list you will see the option to edit in the classic editor as well.
