How to take down a site, without a password, username etc
-
Hi There,
I work for a digital agency and we look after a clients wordpress.org site.
Unfortunately the client use to use a .com site and has absolutely no idea of the log in details so we are currently unable to get in and take the site down. We’ve tried to the recovery process but again neither of us know the details.
Is there anyway we can gain access to the site?
Many thanks,

Short of a court order, it’s unlikely. Are you saying that someone there originally set up the site here and has forgotten login details, or that you just became aware of the site here and want to seize it?

This is probably a super long shot, but does your client still have control of their domain name? They might be able to recover the login info for their registrar and thereby be able to get control of DNS and simply point the record for their WordPress site to a different site (or nowhere in particular even).

From what I have seen in the forum – short of a court order (and maybe even with it) – is the site might be set to Private but not deleted
Put yourself in the recovery group’s shoes – someone shows up and says take a site down – but we can’t really prove it was ours – someone shows up at your front door and tells you to move out of your house because they used to own it or something – just on their word – no proof or anything – and yes you can probably produce a letterhead for the site name – so can I – this is one of the downside to only requiring an email address to set up a site here – no name – no address – no phone –
