How to transfer a blog url to one with a custom domain

  Hello,

  scenario: I have a custom domain blog (www.bubamarasgardencom) which I want to change the url of. I want to change the url to that of a blog I recently created (not yet published),
  http://www.honeytdesigns.wordpress.com

  problem: I tried changing the address in my dashboard but got the message: “sorry, that site already exists”. (this happens even on blog addresses that have been deleted)

  The main reason I am wanting to change the url of my blog is so that I can keep all my content and followers intact.

  Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

  That will require Staff help as you need theme to remove the domain mapping and move the domain mapping to another site. I’ll tag this thread for Staff assistance. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

  What you actually want is to move the domain, not the blog. Staff will get it sorted.

  Hi there,

  You mentioned that you want to change the URL of your blog so you can keep your blog’s content and followers intact. I can move your custom domain bubamarasgarden.com to your new blog at honeytdesigns.wordpress.com, but in that case you will see the content of your new blog at the bubamarasgarden.com address. (Your content and followers won’t be moved.)

  If you want the content from bubamarasgarden.com moved to your new blog at honeytdesigns.wordpress.com, you can export your content and then import it into the new blog. We have instructions for doing that here: Moving Between WordPress.com Blogs

  Then, you can reply here and I can move your followers over to the new blog for you. I can also switch the custom domain to your new blog if you’d like. (However, that isn’t necessary if you want to use the blog address honeytdesigns.wordpress.com with your new blog.)

  Hi Rachel,

  Thank you for your response. I have successfully imported content from my old blog (www.bubamarasgarden.com) to my new one (www.honeytdesigns.wordpress.com). I would be very happy if you could move my followers over to the new site.

  Just to let you know, I wish to maintain the custom domain (bubamarasgarden.com) and organize a site redirect to honeytdesigns.wordpress.com.

  Great! :) I moved your followers over to your new blog at honeytdesigns.wordpress.com, so they will be notified when you make new posts there.

  I also went ahead and linked your custom domain bubamarasgarden.com to your blog at honeytdesigns.wordpress.com. That way, anyone who visits the custom domain will be redirected to your blog honeytdesigns.wordpress.com.
