How to transfer administration of my site

    Please confirm the steps to be followed to transfer the administration of my free plan site to another person who is not yet a WordPress account holder.
    I am presuming that the new administrator must *first* open a WordPress account, even though they do not have a live web site of their own.

    Site: (email visible only to moderators and staff).
    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

    Thanks for your prompt reply.
    My site provides public information about the functions of a small village charity – no domain ownership; no blogs; just a contact feature for inquirers.

    I had read the Help page to which you have directed me. The references there to Blogs and Domains together with the cautions about being irreversable and losing access was a bit heavy for my simple User needs. I am retiring from the Adminstrator role and someone else is to take over.
    It might be deemed convenient for the new Adminstrator to use the existing Username, with a different email address and password.

    Is that permitted within the WordPress security/privacy protocols or will it be detected as “already in use”?

    Hi there,

    Although we do not normally recommend sharing account credentials in this way, since it is the only site on this one account, and no upgrades or domain ownerships are involved, it would be fine if you just shared the login info for this account with the person who is taking over.

    Once they have accessed the account, they can change to a different email address (for site notifications) if they wish. That is done here: https://wordpress.com/me/account/
