how to transfer media from wordpress.org to wordpress.com

transfer media files to wordpress.com from wordpress.org.
Hi, I want to change a self-hosted install to a wordpress.com site. The media folder (wp-content/uploads) contains a CUSTOM folder with unsorted images, a leftover from a transfer from typepad.com. These images are linked to in the older posts content but don’t appear in the media overview.
When transfering the uploads folder to wordpress.com, can we maintain this structure and these images? Or do they first need to be added to the media overview properly in the wordpress back-end?The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

It’s not a secret but I’d rather not mention the url here for privacy reasons of my client, that ok?
It doesn’t make a difference for the drill I suppose, the structure in wp-content is: wp-content/uploads/tpimages,That’s the folder with the unsorted leftovers from typepad that needs to be transfered allong with the rest of the media.

Can you please explain that?
I’m informing here merely for the standard procedure of transfering media when switching platform. The described are just images in a folder. The post content contains the images with an image (<img.. />) tag. -
What I’m wondering about is this:
Do you get for instance ftp access to your wordpress.com uploads folder when moving there or does wordpress.com fetch the images from url or something else?I suppose this is a fairly standard question.
