How to transfer my WordPress.com blog to a different domain and retain SEO?

  I would like to transfer my blog to a different domain without losing any of the SEO benefit that we have built up over the years.

  Please note I don’t want to move out of WordPress.com, just change the domain of the blog.

  There is a site redirect option, but I want to check that it is a page by page solution and not a top level 301.

  We rank well for a variety of terms and I’l like to maintain that as we move to our new home!

  (blog currently mapped to blog.teambuildevents.co.uk)

  I think I’m also having this problem/question.

  We just moved our WP.com site over to WP.org. We set up the 301 redirect, but its not doing what we expected.

  Its simply sending everyone from notreeglise.wordpress.com to notreeglise.com. However, the url’s of our articles changed in the move from:

  http://notreeglise.com/2014/01/07/ne-gaspille-pas-ton-compte-facebook/
  to
  http://notreeglise.com/ne-gaspille-pas-ton-compte-facebook/

  All articles no longer have the date (eg. “2014/01/07/”). So we’re looking for a solution to redirect each article individually. Sounds like what you’re looking for also Mikehccc. Isn’t it?

  @tout2dieu – There’s a note on the Redirect Upgrade Support doc http://en.support.wordpress.com/site-redirect/ that indicates that your self-hosted site needs to maintain the same permalink structure in order for the redirect to work correctly.

  While you can purchase the site redirect upgrade, any time you change your site address, your SEO is going to suffer for a while (other forum volunteers have mentioned that that 3-6 months is not unusual). Keep posting fresh material regularly.
