How to transfer the content from HostGator to WordPress?
-
Hi there,
I have used HostGator to create silverrailtechnews.com. Because I was new to the whole “word press blogging thing” I didn’t quite understand why I had to use HostGator, but … the Youtube tutorial “said so”!
I have uploaded quite a lot of content on my domain and I was wondering can I transfer the content and the domain over to Word Press without losing content? Also what prices do you have for hosting?
I suppose my website does need hosting either by you or HostGator or other hosting companies, due to the amount of content that will be uploaded there…?!
Frankly, this whole thing is utterly confusing, all I wanted was a website where I can upload some news in my industry …. I didn’t want a hosting company to come with it… and after a lot of hard work I kind I don’t want to lose my content…
Your help/ assistance is much appreciated.
Irina

You can export the content from your self-hosted site and import it to WordPress.com following this guide: http://en.support.wordpress.com/import/coming-from-self-hosted/
However, WordPress.com does not currently accept incoming domain transfers. Instead, you can purchase the domain mapping upgrade which will allow you to connect your domain name (registered elsewhere) to your WordPress.com website. Here’s the info: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
Please note: Same Rules Apply – The Domain Mapping Upgrade does not enable the permission to use advertising, any kind of prohibited code, or upload additional themes or plugins. With the upgrade, your blog will still be hosted here at WordPress.com, which means that you will not have FTP access to your files and you will still be required to abide by our Terms of Service.
