First you will have to upgrade your existing site to 3.8.1 http://wordpress.org/
and then you can export and import. See here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-from-wordpress-org -

We cannot import databases. We can only import XML files. I don’t see any option for importing from Joomla software to WordPress software here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/import/ That said, if you can export your content into one of the other services in that support doc you should then be able to use their export utility to import into WordPress. I’ll tag this thread for a definitive response from Staff. follow-up. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

I tried WordPress and I got this error:
File is empty. Please upload something more substantial. This error could also be caused by uploads being disabled in your php.ini or by post_max_size being defined as smaller than upload_max_filesize in php.ini.

As I said above tagged this thread for a definitive response from Staff. Pleas be patient while waiting. Staff have a considerable backlog of threads tagged for their attention. They work through them in chronological order based on datestamps and timestamps. How long it takes to clear the threads and support tickets depends on how many Happiness Engineers are working on them at any given point in time. It also depends on how complex the issues in each thread and ticket are are.
Please don’t bump your thread here again by posting into it because it’s not in your best interest to post to it again after it has been tagged for Staff help. Thread bumping moves the timestamps forward and it takes longer to get a response.

Hi there,
I don’t see any recent import attempts to MyTrafficLife.com. Can you explain how you converted your file into .xml format? Did you upload it to another service and then re-export or attempt to use a file converter of some sort?

Sorry for that. Test site is:
http://mytraffclife.com/newSite
I don’t want to do anything to my main page until I am sure we can transfer every old posts to the new site because i need it up and running while i am making changes.

Hi there,
Are you trying to export the content from http://mytrafficlife.com/newSite/ and import it to mytrafficlife.wordpress.com? If so, http://mytrafficlife.com/newSite/ currently does not have any content on it.
The initial issue was trying to embed a Joomla export to your WordPress.com blog. Is that correct? If so, currently, it looks like http://mytrafficlife.com/newSite/ is a self-hosted site using WordPress.org software. You may be able to follow the tutorial here since you can install plugins on self-hosted sites:
http://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-move-your-site-from-joomla-to-wordpress/
Then, once you have all of your content into your WordPress.org site, you can export it and import the new .xml into your WordPress.com site. Does that make sense?
Please let me know if I’m misunderstanding the situation!
