How to Transfer Widgets across WordPress Blogs
-
Hi – I have created a new URL for my blog and imported the old blog. However, the widgets did not come through.
Is there a way to import them, as they are pretty laborious to prepare? Thanks.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

No. I’m sorry but there is no such thing as a widget export/import. A copy and paste from one set of text widgets into the other process is all we have. Also note the the wordpress.ORG install will not include the widgets that are specially made for wordpress.COM.

Thank you Timethief. Yes, copy/paste is not a bad solution.
But is there any advice on how to import links from my old onto my new blog? They will make part of my Blogroll.

Sure. Have you moved the content yet?
In the wordpress.COM blog > Dashboard > Tools > Export
When you click the button below WordPress will create an XML file for you to save to your computer. This format will contain your posts, pages, comments, custom fields, categories, and tags.
Once you’ve saved the download file, you can use the Import function on another WordPress blog to import this blog.
Click > Download Export File button & save the file to your desktop
In the wordpress.ORG blog > Dashboard > Tools > Import
To get started, choose a system to import from below:
Click > WordPress Import posts, pages, comments, custom fields, categories, and tags from a WordPress export file
Export/Import BlogRoll Links
There are two methods re: export and import of blogroll links.

my blog is COM. Just tried to import links twice (using Import>Blogroll and entering my old URL + /wp-links-opml.php). I get the following response:
Importing…
XML error: Undeclared entity warning at line 51
Inserted 0 links into category 1356. All done! Go manage those links. -

You’re welcome. I’m sorry the blogroll links export bombed on you. :( If you don’t have lots of links copy and paste maybe faster to do than waiting for Staff.
