How to trim a URL before ping function

The majority of the links I post, when clicked, open in a popup. Not to go into full detail, those links are given a bit of extra code, like:

    “http://cnn.com/” becomes “http://cnn.com/?qqvv”

I have WordPress set up to convert the “?qqvv” into javascript to form the popup window (long story).

Here’s the problem. Because of this arrangement, pings do not work for those links. I’ve tested it.

Question: Where exactly is the ping function taking place for these URLs, because I’d like to put in a piece of code to trim the links of that extra bit right before the actual ping function occurs.

    Make sense?

Are you hosted at wp.com? with your mention of javascript I suspect not.

You need to be asking over at wordpress.ORG I’m afraid.

Cornell, yes, I realized this a little bit after posting.

    Apologies.
