How to truncate a loooong comment?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Does anyone have an idea on how to truncate a long comment? The !–more tag does not work for comments. Neither does the !–nextpage. I am not skilled with HTML and need some piece of advice as some of the comments on my blog are getting philosophical and way too long (e.g. http://eprakone.wordpress.com/2011/04/20/podobnost-cisto-nahodna/#comment-36864). Some sort of simple truncation would help so that only those who want to read the comment in full have to go through it and the rest do not have to scroll down… and down… and down… and down…

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Dashboard >> Settings >> Discussion >> Other comment settings >> you can set the max number of comments on a Page –

    Not sure if that is what you want – but hope it helps – the default is set to let the comments go on and on on a single page.

    Thank you, but it is not what I need… I need to “split” a long comment so that only, say, the first 5 lines of it would appear in the comment box and a sign “Read more” for those who want to get to the rest of the comment.

    My experience with using pages of comments is not very good – when I cross-refered to a comment that was not on the top page it never took me to the comment, just to the post and the top page of comments. (Hope it is understandable. English is not my primary language.)

    Are you sure the comment is not spam? Sometimes long comments are actually spam.

    I do not think you can split a comment.

    You can’t split it but you can enclose it in a scrollbox. Edit the comment and change it to this:

    <div style="height:250px;white-space:pre-wrap;overflow:auto;padding:10px;">
    COMPLETE COMMENT CONTENT HERE
    </div>
