How to turn off ads on my premium account?

  • Unknown's avatar

I thought by upgrading to premium I would have no ads on my posts. Now I find them replete in my poetry blog and they completely detract from what I’ve been doing for about six months. I have to take the blog down if this can’t be fixed. Please communicate with me.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Howdy,

Can you upload a screenshot of the ads to your media library? You have the No Ads upgrade as part of the bundle you purchased and can’t find any on your site.

Instructions for taking a screenshot can be found here: Making a screenshot and you can upload it to https://jamesrosskelly.wordpress.com/wp-admin/media-new.php

Once it’s uploaded, let me know and we can dive in deeper.

    Cheers!

Ok I got a printscreen on the admin space

  • Hi James,

Thanks for the screenshot. Those embedded ads, I believe, are being added by a browser extension you’re using. We don’t like ads like that either; they don’t really help anyone.

Our ads, when present on other blogs without the upgrade, appear after the post with a small link above it saying “About These Ads” that direct you to our support page explaining them.

Could you check your Chrome extensions (type this into the address bar chrome://extensions/ or click on the menu icon, Tools->Extensions? My hypothesis is one of those will be “Search Assist” or one of another name that has that as a “feature”.

The good news is your visitors are not seeing those ads, so let’s get rid of them for you!

thanks as you said there was an extension but no search assist as you suggested I deleted names wham-er or something close that was a third party, that did not do the trick. my other blog (jkinak04) does not seem to be affected this way.

  • If there are other extensions listed, have you deactivated them to see if the ads still appear?

Another option may be a plugin that is interacting with your browser ( chrome://plugins/ )

I’m afraid I’m not terribly familiar with all the ways malware like this can hijack into a system. Running Windows Defender or another anti-malware program, like Spybot, may help.

Thanks for your patience. Again, rest assured that others are not seeing ads on your site.
