How to turn off notification of a new post

    Every new post generates an email notification to the followers of osciasilo. Is there a way to post something without generating that email notification?

    Thanks.

    In my experience, No. I tried making a post Private and published it that way. Of course, there was no notification then, but as soon as I made it public an email went out. I’ve also tried setting the date sometime in the past and it still does sends out the notification.

    Now if you create a page, no notification is sent for those. So maybe if it is just one or two that you want no notifications for, create a page instead, but it will not be placed among your posts but where ever pages are kept on your blog.

    Maybe something has changed since I last tried it and someone can update. There have been times I wanted to do that very thing and was unable to.

    This is something we are interested in doing for our blog as well, so that we can post something with a backdate, but not notify our followers. That way it would be there when someone came to the site, but a notification isn’t sent to everyone. If this isn’t possible, I would encourage WordPress to look into this.

    Just want to say that I’m also desperate for a solution to this question! I am adding various backdated posts, and don’t want them to be sent to my followers.

    The best thing I’ve been able to do is this: Write in the “excerpt” for the post something like: “This is an old post I’m just now uploading to the site — apologies for the old news coming to your inbox!” Then that “excerpt” is what shows up in the email sent to followers. However, once the email is sent, I go back and change the “excerpt” so that it makes sense for the blog.

    I also strongly encourage WordPress to create the option of turning off notifications to followers.

    I’m sorry but apparently Google Reader will display any posts that we edit in the RSS feed.

    I wonder what would happen if you set the entire site to private (not just the post), and then published the post. Then you would change the site back to public. Would it still send the notification email?

    That’s the way the system is designed to operate and there is no way to get around it that I am aware of.

    @dainabeth
    That used to work but I’ve been told that it doesn’t work anymore with Google Reader.

    I’m wondering if you could write the posts in a separate blog, then Import them?
