How to turn off RSS Feed or automatic updates?
-
Is there any way to determine if your blog is set up for RSS feed and/or automatically notifies others when your blog has been updated? If so, how would I turn off both features? Thanks

I just posted to you in the other thread so some of this will be repetitious. All blogs have rss feeds and we can set them to display either full posts or summaries. We can also limit the number but the number cannot be less than 1. It makes no difference at all if you set the feeds to ) – one post is the default. The place to make changes is on this page
-> Options -> Reading
scroll down to:
Syndication Feeds
Show the most recent: ___posts
For each article, show:
Full text
SummaryNote: If you use the <!–more–> feature, it will cut off posts in RSS feeds.
As per my answer in the other thread private blogs do not have rss feeds http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/10/23/feeds-and-password-protected-blogs/

Thank you TimeThief for this response. :) Also, is there any way to determine if someone is receiving feeds to your blog? Also, what happens if I update an entry…are viewers with rss feed notified each time of an update? I’m sure that could become a bit annoying. T

Ooops, almost forgot. Are passcode protected entries able to be read if someone has rss feed to my blog? Or if I set my blog to private, are rss feeds still available as an option? :)
-
Thanks for the thanks. :)
(1) There is no way to determine if someone is receiving your blog posts by rss feed.
(2) The way it stands every edit you make to a post will go out on the rss feed, unless your blog is “private” and has no rss feeds.

You’ve been very helpful Timethief…thanks again for taking the time to answer my questions. :) T

Not to be a bother…but I just checked my blog, and I don’t see an option which says “rss feed”. So how would someone obtain that for my journal if the option to subscribe is not visible? I’ve never used rss before, so I’m not sure how it all works. T

Syndication Feeds means “rss feed”
So when I said the place to make changes is on this page – it’s there just look for the words “Syndications Feeds” lower down on the page.
-> Options -> Reading
scroll down to:
Syndication Feeds
Show the most recent: ___posts
For each article, show:
Full text
Summary
Note: If you use the <!–more–> feature, it will cut off posts in RSS feeds.It seems to me that if you choose a theme that does not have rss feeds in the footer (Ocean Mist doesn’t) and, if you do not place the Meta widget or another rss widget in your sidebar then there will be no rss feeds that can be drawn on.

We cannot edit and I want to add something to a senstence that I wrote above. “It seems to me that if you choose a theme that does not have rss feeds coded into the header or footer of the theme (Ocean Mist doesn’t) and, if you do not place the Meta widget or another rss widget in your sidebar then there will be no rss feeds that can be drawn on.

Ah..I do remember seeing that as a widget, but since I wasn’t familiar with it, I just left it alone. Ok…this is good news. You’d make a great wordpress employee TimeThief. :) T

I knew you would like the “good news”. You haven’t got rss feeds set up so no one is receiving your posts via syndication. Thanks for the compliment. :-)

If you click on the original post you made you will find an option to mark this thread “resolved”. This typing into two threads on the same subject at the same time is somewhat inconvenient. ;-)
