HOW-TO: Turn off site until development is complete ?
-
Is there a way to hide my site from the general public (and web crawlers) while it’s being developed ? I’d just as soon not expose the site to everyone while I learn and experiment with WordPress.com.
Thanks,

There are some plugins called ”maintenance mode” for this job but using plugin is not allowed at wordpress.com

@onurkaratas – useless answers just confuse people
For a WordPress.COM blog – set to private
Dashboard >> Settings >> Read >> I would like my site to be private, visible only to users I choose
-
For anyone else who stumbles across this post…
Under Settings >> Reading >> Site Visibility, there is a radio button labeled “I would like my site to be private.” Clicking it addresses the issue.

You could set it to “private” until it’s how you want it, then return it to public viewing.
Dashboard>Settings>Reading>(Site visibility)
