How to unapprove ‘approved’ users

    Hi,

    The title may sound a bit weird but I really need help to get rid of some trolls that have been spamming a lot with direct links or links to their site/blogs that are infested with either Linkbucks, cash.com or other cash generated links. Actually, Akismet is doing a good job blocking all this nonsense – but some of them are smart.

    Firstly, they will leave a generic comment on your blog (where usually the comment will stay as ‘unapproved’ under the pending section until you to approve it) and once you approve their comment(s), they automatically will have access or freedom to post any comments in your blog (that means their comments do not need your approval anymore).

    When this happens, they (the ones in the ‘approved’ category) will start to post these annoying links in the blog (link bucks, cash.com, etc).

    What do I need to do to get rid of these individuals? Since they are ‘approved’ users, I have to check all the comments one by one and manually spam or thrash them. Can I reverse them back into the ‘pending’ or unapproved status so that whenever they post a comment with their username or email, their comments will be automatically sent to the pending section, in other words – their comment wont be visible anymore.

    Hi there!

    There is a option in the discussion setting s where you can set all comments to be moderated also you can black list certain phrases, emails, ip addresses, that way anytime a blacklisted item is caught that comment is cued for moderation…

    If you choose to blacklist it won’t block them from reading your blog or from commenting… Also if you black list by Ip you might block a person that was trying to leave a legit comment for the simple fact IP’s are recycled by the isp provider…
