I don’t have the box checked to block email invites and fellow blogger brotherscampfire.com is unable to add me as a contributor. Can someone please help.

This site is not hosted with us on WordPress.com, but using the open source WordPress software at another hosting provider. This is a bit different to a site hosted on WordPress.com. You can read about these differences here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
You would need to reach out to the hosting provider or the theme developer for further assistance with activating that ability there.

So essentially you are saying that I didn’t do anything wrong? It’s something the .org site needs to fix on their end?

Correct, although, the fix wouldn’t come from WordPress.org, most likely the theme developers.
