How to unprivate a hosted wordpress blog
-
Hi
When I registered the blog I choose for it to be private. Now I want to make it public. But under Settings.. Privacy all I see is a single radio button which is checked and which says “I would like my site to be private, visible only to users I choose”. There is no way to change this setting.
Any help gratefully appreciated.
Thanks

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

There should be two other choices – just click on one of the choices – you must pick one, you can’t “un-check” a radio button. Don’t forget to Save Changes

I too have mine set as private but can change it by clicking one of the 2 search engine choices as shown in this support document on the privacy settings.

Thanks both.
Yeah – I checked ‘Allow search engines to index this site’ and that made my site public.
It seems a bit strange – I thought ‘private’ meant members only so I don’t see what that has to do with search engines…. it looks like a possible glitch in the page to me.
Anyway, thanks again all – it works which is the main thing.

Hi there,
There’s no “glitch”. There are three setting choices. http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/ Thanks for letting us know you resolved this. Will you please enter the top of this thread and mark it “resolved”? -
Resolved!
Ok. I understand – though i do think maybe the wording of the first two options could be changed to emphasise that as well as allowing search engines to crawl the blog or not either option will make the blog public to humans.
Thanks.
