How to update word doc within site? Trying to cut and paste. Not accepting update.

    On our initial Welcome page, we have a link that opens to what we call aTextbook Scholarship Program. Information is provided to students wishing to enter essay writing contest. As you scroll down this page, you come to another link where you can download application. It is a word doc. I was trying to update this 2018 application with an updated 2019 version. I attempted by cutting and pasting but it does not ‘stick’. When reopening to see if accepted, the site reverts back to the 2018 version. What am I doing wrong?
