How to upload a header to a non premium site

I joined WordPress today rather than use Wix where I have my regular website. I have spent 3 hours trying to upload a header, every time I try it tells me it to crop (which I want to do), but then says there is a problem. I’ve tried approx 15 different themes, and 3 different header sizes and nothing works. So I thought I would forget the cropping and see what happens. Same problem. Can you please advise otherwise I think WordPress is not for me. Too much work! Thank you.

I’m a novice as well. I got the message and ignored it. WordPress did put the header into my blog. Although it may not meet standards, it looks okay to me.

Consult your theme detailed theme description page and take note that the features listed there do not include a custom image header https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/boardwalk/
Note also: Featured Images are 2000 wide by 1500 high.Featured Header Images
Note: This feature only works with themes that allow custom header images and have featured header images enabled.

Hey there @eliefostermacro — it looks like you’ve got a header working now with your current theme, so well done there!
Can you tell me where you were uploading a header before? Typically you won’t see that option unless the theme supports it.
