how to upload images using URL
-
It use to be so simple to upload images – just google image, copy image url and them put into the bar on wordpress site. Why can I not do that now?
I have tried to do it and all I get is a red bar and something about the image not being something – ok so I’ve lost the bar now trying to sort things out.
Please put things back to how they were :(The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I am also trying to add image via URL from google photos or google drive. But just states the file type is not supported. has anyone succesfully done this?
-
I managed to sort things but saving the post in drafts then getting it out in classic mode and then adding as before. Long winded but worked.
That was it “file not supported” was what I get on this new updated version.
Wish they’d stop messing things around. -
I’m also getting this error that the file type is not supported when I’m adding it as a URL

Are you want to add the image into the post by using URL ? Is that what you want ?
I think just by going to Post -> Add media -> there is an option “Add Via URL” > Paste your image URL > OK > Update your post.
There you go ! you had post the image via URL. Might be that only you want. If that might helps, drop a comment here.
thanks !

ruzzel – I’m glad it worked for you because now I can’t get it to work.
brotskytv – that is what I’m going but keep getting error message which says “The file could not be uploaded because the file type is not supported.”
Though I get “upload” rather than “Ok”Am getting very fed up :(

@dianewoodrow and @ruzzel – When you insert an image by URL, whether in either the New Dash Editor or the Classic WP Admin Editor, that URL needs to end with JPG, JPEG, GIF or PNG. See here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/images/adding-images-to-posts-or-pages/#insert-an-image-from-the-web
On some websites, like flickr, you can use the oembed method of adding an image to your post. More about that here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/images/flickr-photos/#flickr-embeds
If you are still having trouble with this, please post back here with the exact image URL you are trying to use and in which Editor you are trying to use it and get the error.
@lukepilkington85 – from my understanding of earlier Staff replies, inserting images by URL from Google Drive is currently not supported.

@justjennifer – thank you so much. I’ve got it to work now. I am so please. And just making sure there’s a jpg ending or similar is great to know.
Am a very happy blogger now X
