How to uploading photos?
-
Hi there,
I want to write new blog posts and want to upload more photos for it.
In my dashboard it shows that I have used 100% of my 3GB on the site.
Is this used up with the photos on my blog posts *as well* as my media library, or is this only the media library?
Most importantly, can I delete photos from the media library without them deleting from the blog posts? Thanks so much,

Hey Bella,
With a free WordPress.com account, you get 3GB storage space. Most of the time, it’s more than enough but once you start uploading more images and writing content, it starts filling.
Maybe you have reached the threshold point. There are two options, either you delete the unwanted images or you can upgrade.
The rest, I am tagging this as “modlook” so that a staff member can check your account and let you know more about it.

@belladaisy2018 This is a new account. What is the address of the site you need help with?
As long as images are optimized for the web there should be room for thousands with 3GB of storage.

.jpg images tend to be of a smaller file size than .pngs too. Removing images from your Media Library will remove them from the posts they are associated with. If you have any extremely large images you could delete them from your Media Library, edit their file size and upload them again and re-insert them into the appropriate posts but the easiest option would be to upgrade for more storage:

Hi there,
Your Media Library contains all the files (images, audio, other) you have uploaded to your blog. To delete files that aren’t contained in posts you can go the WP Admin Dashboard > Media and select the Unattached option from the drop-down menu.
Here’s how to get to that dashboard:
and here’s a screenshot of where to find that option:
If you’re not able to free up enough space, then you should consider upgrading to a plan that offers more storage:

@ravichahar Also just clarifying that only media files count against available storage. A site can have an unlimited number of posts and pages (text).

Howdy everyone –
I just wanted to mention, as I don’t see it already, that deleting files from your media library will also break them in their place within the site. If you remove an image from your library, it is going to also be removed from any post or page where it was added.
