How to use image files larger than 4000px wide?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi there

I have problems using image files in my WordPress installation when they are more than 4000 pixels wide.

The file is uploaded and I can access it via the media library BUT no thumbnails or another sizes are generated, and I can access the image for galleries. After uploading I get an HTTP-error but the file is there and I can link to it.
The 4000 px limit is from experience – anything larger won’t convert.

The file size upload limit is 256 MB, so that’s not the problem (and the files are actually uploaded, as mentioned above).

I use the site for distributing hi res images (e.g. 8 MB, 6000 pixels wide) for press purposes, so image downscaling is not an option.
And I need to put the images in a gallery for a quick overview for the journalists before they pick an image for download.

Can I force the site to handle the larger files?

My site is hosted at Unoeuro.com, I don’t know if they have imposed restrictions on image conversions.
I can access all php files via FTP, so I can make changes there if required.

    Kind regards

You are right, it’s not a wordpress.com site, sorry for the inconvenience.
