How to use WordPress for a blog on my existing website hosted by another hosting service

  • Unknown's avatar

My name is Ira Bitner. I currently have no WordPress involvement. I would like to begin a blog. I am new to websites. I will be new to blogging…I have an existing domain, an existing website online hosted by another server I am happy with. I do not wish to migrate my website, nor domain name to WordPress. But I would like to add a blog page to my site. I understand that WordPress is a good blogging platform. How can I utilize WordPress as a blogging platform to host my blog while integrating that into my existing website? Any thoughts would be most sincerely appreciated…thank you for your time in consideration…

  • Hi Ira,

If I understand correctly, you wish to maintain your existing website, which is currently hosted elsewhere but planning to link it to the blog you intend to create on WordPress.com.

You can do it by just creating a link or menu item on your current website, let’s say we call it as Blog, and then link the WordPress.com blog address to it.

However, depending on your requirement, if the blog you created on WordPress.com is on a free plan when visitors click the Blog link on your website, they’ll be brought to your blog with the free WordPress.com address, e.g. irastarrbitnerii.wordpress.com.

If you do not want the address to be shown as irastarrbitnerii.wordpress.com but something like blog.irastarrbitnerii.com, then you need an upgraded plan on WordPress.com in order to map the custom domain to your WordPress.com blog.
