How to verify domain ownership

  How do I verify ownership of my domain to Google apps so I can set up email for my blog? WordPress support has not yet replied to my question. Can I upload an html file to the wordpress server? Or add a meta tag to the site’s home page? Or add a DNS record to my domain’s configuration? Greatly appreciate help from anyone. thanks
