How to work around Portfolio page permalink?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi!

So I am building a site using Hyalite theme (although it shouldn’t make much difference what theme is applied for this issue).

This theme has an option to use Portfolio, but I don’t want to use it as I can better create what I want using pages. However I want to be able to name one of my pages ‘Portfolio’.

Problem is, the /portfolio/ permalink is obviously reserved, even if I deselect that I want to use Portfolio in settings.

Is there a way of forcing WP to recognise that I am not using Portfolio in my theme config, and let me use /portfolio/ in my permalink?

    Thanks!
    Jon

    Hi,

Is there a way of forcing WP to recognise that I am not using Portfolio in my theme config, and let me use /portfolio/ in my permalink?

Possibly, but it might require CSS customization. An easy workaround might be to use a static page with the slug “portfolio-1,” or anything other than “portfolio,” yet title the page “Portfolio.”

    Have you tried that?

    Hi Musicdoc1,

I am more than happy with CSS customisation and have a Premium upgrade to allow that… so if you know of any suggestions that would be fantastic.

Currently I do have the page titled as ‘Portfolio’, and am using the slug ‘portfolio-1’… I was just hoping for a neater slug of ‘portfolio’ if possible.

    Thanks!

    Hi Jon,

Thanks for the info. I am very uninformed regarding CSS customization. However, there are a number of volunteers who visit this forum regularly who are quite knowledgeable in that area. In order to expedite the process, you might try one or both of the following:
    1. Resubmit the request to the CSS Customization forum.
    2. Add a “modlook” tag to the sidebar of the topic to call for staff attention.

    Thanks musicdoc1! Will do.

    You’re welcome, Jon.
Note: I meant add a “modlook” tag to the sidebar of this topic to call for staff attention.

    Thanks musicodc1,

I ended up going with the suggestion of just renaming the slug to ‘my-portfolio’… seems like an elegant solution for now.

    Thanks!
